MATH 377 Elementary Number Theory

MATH 251 or MATH 281, or permission.

Course Description

This is the study of integers and their properties. The course provides an account of classical number theory as well as some of its historical background including divisibility; greatest common divisors; prime factorization; congruences; theorems of Wilson, Fermat, and Euler; multiplicative functions; and primitive roots. Other topics include recent applications of the classical subject area in cryptology.
