LAWS 655 Legislative Advocacy & Lobbying

Course Description

This course examines lobbying and legislative advocacy. With legislatures central to our system of government, whether at the Federal or State level, attorneys need to be familiar with government relations, practices, and legislative processes. Topics may include the constitutional basis for and history of paid lobbying; the regulation of lobbying as a profession, including the legal and ethical restrictions; the role of money and politics in lobbying; and practical elements of how to be an effective lobbyist. Enrollment is limited to 24 students. This satisfies 2 experiential learning credits.
