LAW 663 Licensing of Intellectual Property

Course Description

This course will consider various legal aspects of the licensing of intellectual property, including licensing of patents, copyrights and trademarks. It is fair to observe that the real value of invention or authorship to most authors and inventors arises from the ability of the author or inventor to license their work. While their ownership is protected by federal intellectual property law, their control over their work once they license the work to others, depends upon the contractual arrangements they make with their licensee. This course is primarily a course in contracts law as applied to intellectual property. Having taken a course in patent law, copyright law or trademark law will be useful to students, but none are prerequisites for this course.
